About
Molly Paula Cushing was first interested in painting while visiting an art gallery in New York with her husband. They both loved the pieces that were on display and longed to purchase one, but unfortunately couldn’t afford to. That prompted Molly to paint something for herself.
Her artistic endeavors began in the the 1980’s. She drew inspiration heavily from the tropical fantasies created by artists Orvill Bulman and Fluer Coles, as well as the beautiful flora, fauna, and wildlife that surrounded her growing up in Florida. It is evident in her paintings that Cushing has a large admiration for Africa. She’s always loved the beauty, culture, and ingenuity of Africa and all its people. When she wasn’t in Florida, Molly spent her childhood in Cuba. While there, two Jamaican women became a big part of her household and helped raise her. Molly loved them dearly and wanted to illustrate that adoration and inspiration through her artwork.
Molly creates portraits of creatures from all walks of life coming together in unison and harmony, with the sole message that we should love one another.
